WE should not begin to rejoice with the news that the Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has increased the minimum wage for civil servants to N25,000. In fact,
I believe this will create more problems for the incoming administration.
At the twilight of Oshiomhole’s administration, he has no reason to increase the minimum wage. He ought to have done this a long time ago.
At a time when states are finding it difficult to pay salaries, I think the new increment will only give the incoming government some challenges.
Instead of announcing an increment, the governor ought to have made housing and car loans easy to assess for civil servants, while leaving the incoming government to decide if it will increase the minimum wage.
